Timing belt kit replacement
Replacement of the timing belt, idler, tensioner and water-pump bearing/shaft depends on the location of the pump, just as does the replacement of the chain, sprocket, chain tensioner and slider. Both systems share the same role: keeping the relationship between the camshaft(s) and the crankshaft precise (relative to the oil pump, high-pressure pump, balance shafts, etc.).
If any component in this system fails, it most often leads to major engine damage.
To prevent engine damage, it is very important that drivers consult our technicians in good time about replacement intervals — these differ from vehicle to vehicle. There is also gear-driven timing without a replacement interval.
Each manufacturer defines time intervals at which the listed systems should be replaced, most commonly based on age and mileage.
For timing belt replacement, this is in most cases every 5–7 years or 80,000–180,000 km the vehicle has driven. Some vehicles have a timing belt that runs in oil ("wet belt"). On these vehicles it is important to use the correct engine oil with specific additives that maintain the required elasticity of the belt — otherwise the wet belt's service life is reduced.
Timing chain kit replacement is most commonly done when a change in the engine's sound during start-up is noticed. This system also has a defined replacement interval. The most common failure on this system happens due to irregular oil changes or using the wrong engine oil.
